Applying earth pressure in Basement in ETABS Can we apply earth pressure as follows. 1)Auto mesh the walls suitably 2) Dummy columns named DUMMYCOLUMNS are provided at locations that match the auto-mesh of the walls 3) Dummy columns are given sections of 1X1 cm^2, to act only as load-transferors 4) Loads are provided in 'DEAD' case. But better create a separate case like 'SOILPRESS' for it 5) Loads are provided on the dummy columns and side columns in direction of local axis that match the direction of actual soil pressure – negative in local-2 direction, in this case. Expert comment is saught in this regard.

I unsertood that earth pressure(Hz lateral load canot be applied directly).The software(ETABS) has the drawback of applying surfacece load of linearly varying but it should be analysised separately and to be applied mannualy. Moreover if there exist 2 to 3 basement it will be much labourious also.Please correct me, If I am wrong in understanding .If there is any alternate procedure please brief .

Sir, (i) Perhaps there is some confusion regardig my posting. I meant whether sloping slab can be applied usual DL and Live load over it in as in the case of RCC hz floor in Etabs. whether load on the sloping floor (assigned as" membrae/shell")will transfer to the related beam. I am cnfirm that this sloping floor canot be assigned Diaphargm. (ii) Regarding basement wall, It is well known that the RCC wall can be modelled as wall(as shear wall) but how the lateral load of earth pressure(active) of which nature is linearly varying are assigned in those wall as there is no provision of assigning linearly varying surface load in Etabs). whether this can be applied aas per my attached file. help saught in following (i) whether sloping roof can be analysised as hz roof in EYABS( without assigning diaphargm) (ii) I have found no option for applying load varying linearly in surface loading. then how can one assign earth pressure in RCC wall in basement in ETABS. Please comment . Thanking in advance.
