  1. Dear all, I need some help with masonry structure design which I am working on for proposal to the World Bank for funding for disaster resilient houses for flood affected areas. Deadlines given to me are very strict so I am just unable to grasp onto the design of Masonry Structures in detail w.r.t. ACI design code. Currently I have been able to make a basic model on ETABS (v18) and have to check my results (which are relatively simple for common RC structures) however for Masonry structures permissible limits I am just unable to find in ACI Code. Any chance someone can simplify those limits for me for me please? like any notes, or on message, related page numbers etc. Also if any expert can spare some time and check my model for any potential mistakes because it's been a little while since I used this software. P.S. I am working for a Public Company so there is no financial benefit whatsoever and is more of a voluntary support which my company is providing for flooded regions. Thanks for the read.
  2. How to model exactly brick masonry in ETAB? Like we draw beam ,column and shear Is there is any procedure or command to draw brick masonry?
  3. Salam, Anybody could share how the confining elements could be placed in confined masonry design, and how earthquake effect a two or three storey building. Regards
  4. Being a civil engineer, we learn how to design RC structures which consists of beams and columns. what about load bearing structure? Where can I get information regarding design of brick masonry structure that is common practice in most part of Punjab... And can we model it on Etabbs and check pier and spandrel forces, etc?
  5. Can somebody help me to design load bearing strucutre, BS code is only code writen for massonary strucuture , i am also looking for a book in which load bearing design example are provided, so if somebody have any information than inform me.
  6. Can you look the attached Etabs model and tell me your opinion , specially about concrete cantilever ? Brick Confined Masonry with Concrete Cantilever I know you have a verry big experience with Etabs and as Structural Engineer also For you this structure it's a childrem game Codes : Eurocode 2 thank you luk structure.rar
  7. Hello Everyone, Once a masonry wall is modeled in etabs, how can I see the stresses in the wall? I modeled a sample masonry wall of 5 Mpa and wanted to know when the wall in story 1 fails (compressive strength of 5 Mpa is exceeded) after adding one floor after another.
  8. Assalamu Aalikum, Hi, I am a new member. I have a plot measuring 30*70 feet. Most of houses being built here (in Rawalpindi) have masonry foundations (a pyramid of bricks on PCC or sometimes the PCC layer has three to four iron rods of size 3/8 or 4/8 in this "PCC" layer. I want to make a raft foundation instead of masonry foundation but the cost seems to be high. I want to ask if I make a raft 1 feet thick and put a single mesh of center to center distance 12 inch. Even this will cost more but if it gives more strength then I want to go for this. Would such foundation more durable and strong?
  9. Salam Dear friends i need guidance on the foundation of masonry structure (2 storey residential with partial basement) on week soils, (BC 0.75tsf), which foundation will perform better, i) an strip RCC footing with an upstand/down beam under the wall. ii) strip RCC footing without beam.Share your experiences and any other good suggestions. Regards
  10. Dear Seniors, I am designing a 3 story (Basement+Ground+First floor) masonry House. Till now i used to design only the wall footing and slabs in masonry structures but now i want detail guidelines for Masonry structures.
  11. i want to model beam whose ends are resting on masonry wall in etabs,if i assign hinge or roller support to end points of beams how the load, moments and shear will transfer to below elements if it is a mulistorey building
  12. Seismic Design Guide for Masonry Buildings It is a very good reference book and its free. You can download it from, http://www.ccmpa.ca/download/seismic-design-guide-for-masonry-buildings/
