  1. Hello, As salamu alikum. I want to verify if my judgement (as shown in figure below) is correct. . We know that the extra top bars of a continuous beam would terminate at the middle third from the support . and the extra bottom bars at mid span would terminate usually at quarter length of the beam.. but what about the extra bottom bars at the support ? is the figure above correct? is there any section of the aci code that would verify this.. will the cut off point be the same for tie beams, grade beam , 2nd story and above beam? Thanks in advance
  2. SAP2000 has this option for beam reinforcement & I am not able to understand it. Lets say if i have specified reinforcement ratio which i have got from conventional formula e=As/bd & shear reinforcement. How provide that specific ratio using these command as shown in attached picture. PS can anyone tell me how to provide stirrups in section designer option.
  3. Hi all I analysed a G+3 RCC building in ETAB. After analysis and design, i obtained the rebar percentage for each member. for columns, the value of rebar in 3rd story column got higher than the same column in 1st and 2nd story. is it correct..?
  4. Assalamualaikum to all. I analyzed a two story residential concrete building in ETABS 9.7 After designing the structure ETABS shows more Longitudinal Reinforcement in upper story. is it right?? In my concept, bottom story longitudinal reinforcement should be large. I modeled the structure as pin support at base and there is no seismic and wind load applied. Column axial load and longitudinal reinforcement snap shoot are attached below. Help me Please. Thanks in advance.
  5. AoA. While designing a slab I have observed that etabs 2016 gives comparatively higher area of steel whereas safe 2016 gives lesser areas. I have made the model in etabs and directly exported the story in safe to design the slab. I have kept the property modifier as 0.25 for slab in bending in etabs. Given the fact that I have exported the file the the section properties and modifers need to be similar in safe as that of etabs. Can anyone help me why is there such difference in reinforcement for both software? Here are the models in etabs and safe if it could help. SAFE.rar ETABS.rar
  6. I have just started working on Etabs 2016. After completing the design, only one value of longitudinal reinforcement is displayed on beam.. the values near support & at bottom are not displayed. Can u please help in order to display all longi. steel values??? thanks
  7. How to have a solid grip on the detailing of RCC structural elements? is there any course on detailing or any good book???
  8. Salam all, I want some discussion regarding using bent up bars in slabs/beams. Why it is not generally used? Is there any reference from codes for detailing of bent up bars?
  9. Assalamualikum, what is the meaning of Longitudinal Reinforcement,Reinforcement percentage in ETABS output. Say, a column reinforcement percentage is 2.3% what is the meaning of it? again, say, longitudinal reinforcement is 4.2 what is the meaning of it? Why do i need to know this parameter?
  10. Hello I design flat slab in ETABS and cracks width in the slab larger than maximum allowed by standard. Is it posible to provide larger amount of the reinforcement, which ETABS will use to check the cracks instead of the required reinforcement which ETABS calculated for flexural design? Have a nice day.
  11. Asalamualaikum Why some engineers put reinforcement in top and bottom? They used to put same bars in top and bottom of footing.. What can be the reason?
  12. Can the slab bottom reinforcement pass below inverted beam bottom reinforcement? Otherwise the slab bottom reinforcement mesh will be lifted up atleast 2.5", thus reducing the design effective depth.
  13. Concrete on the building exterior treated to an exterior finish e.g. paint is classified as concrete exposed to weather or not? I am facing this problem in placing the reinforcement, the exterior will be painted and weather protected, should I follow the cover requirements of concrete exposed to weather or not?
  14. AoA everyone ! I want to know that is there any minimum & maximum reinforcement ratios for section of Raft footing ? Any Code or Reference. Also if you can provide your steel quantity consumed to Rraft concrete quantity ratios. Regards
  15. Dear Members I am working on a project site where Column Reinforcement is as shown in the file. The Columns (C6 to C20) are going from +12'-0" to +48'-0" un-braced and without any slab at intermediate levels. The slab is at +12'0" and +48'0" level. The Reinf is changing and larger dia bars are provided on top. I want to ask that is it alright and what is the possible explanation of changing the number and dia of bars in-between ? Regards Column Reinf 1.pdf
  16. Steel Areas for Flexure Reinforcement Given in ETABS Are Always Less Than Manual Calculation because of A lot of Approximation, So Should we enhance ETABS Steel by some percentage? or put it like tha.
  17. Salam there is a heavy raft of 6feet depth .Reinforcement is provided at top and bottom.is there any requirement of reinforcement in the middle of this T/B reinforcement for temperature/shrinkage control of this mass concrete.if there is any reference in any code kindly mention Regards
  18. Salam How much rusting is allowed on steel reinforcement and how it will be checked on site?kindly refer some code reference . Regards
  19. Dear members on this link there is a drawing in which top_reinforcement is just supported only on one side how this type of reinforcement is efficient. http://wiki-edupunk.blogspot.com/2012/08/slabtopreinforcement.html thanking you in anticipation for your precious time and knowledge sharing
  20. in case of torsion at the discontinuous ends of a two way slab it reinforced with torsional steel which is L/5 where L is the longer side, any senior can share the drawing of the reinforcement how that reinforcement is placed ???
  21. why the minimum steel reinforcement ratio is greater than shrinkage/temperature reinforcement in slabs?ACI reference is 8.2.1.6,if suppose a lesser reinforcement required what is the reason to provide at least equal to shrinkage reinforcement?
  22. can we design a beam at minimum reinforcement ratio?? or it must be some above value than minimum reinforcement ratio??
  23. How the main reinforcement in the bottom slab of a water tank is placed ???should it be bent down at the ends just as the one bent up in room slabs?and do the temperature bars be placed below main bars on the soil side or above the main bars on the water side???
