  1. Salam, I have a query regarding finding out the story stifness of building structure. I have modeled a building on Etabs and applied applied UBC Zone-3 lateral loading on it. Ran analysis and then from "show tables" i selected show "story stiffness" and i got a table showing story story stiffness of each story in both (x and y) directions. But when i modeled the same building and applied time history function and selected to show story stiffness from show tables, ETABS is not showing any story stiffness at all. Can anyone explain what is the reason of it?
  2. AoA everyone. I want to model a soft storey in a building on etabs 2016 as part of my fyp. Can anyone here guide me how to do that?
  3. According to IS code soft story should be design with 2.5 times the base shear. So, I multiplied the mass source factor by 2.5 in etabs. but base shear didn't even increased to twice. Maybe I should increase the mass source factor until the base shear of soft story building is 2.5 times that of normal building. I have many questions? Am I doing it right? Is my understanding correct. Is there more appropriate method to do it? Are columns only structural elements I should separately design for for soft story? or I should design beams and slabs too for soft story. Please somebody clarify my questions and suggest best way to design building with soft story. and also common errors and misunderstanding regarding such design?
