Correct I am wrong. As per UBC # of modes shall be such that it incorporates 90% of participating mass. If participating mass is 90% in first two modes then no need of other modes. If 90% is acheiving in first 6 modes then first 6 modes are sufficient. If 90% is not acheiving then you have to scale your spectrum. In STAAD add missing mass value.
Also, I have worked on STAAD mostly. If you require STAAD model then i can attach it as well.
Good day. Assuming that 90% of the mass participation is achieved. But the Base shear from dynamic analysis is greater than the base shear from static analysis. Do I need to scale it down? Thank you

Hi BAZ, i have a question. What is the initial value of scale factor do we need to input in etabs for RSA. is it 1000 or 9810? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I want to ask a question about response spectra based on UBC 97. Given that the Base shear from dynamic analysis is greater than the base shear from static analysis. Do we need to scale down?
BUILT UP SECTIONS STEEL GIRDER
in Steel Design
Posted
Hello. I am consulting for an effective built up steel I-Girder.
We design the steel girder to be W36x487, but the I-Girder delivered on site was W36x150. I tried several built up sections, like adding plates, combining the two I-girders and etc. I am hoping you could suggest some Built up sections i can try or references or Images. Thank you. The Unsupported Length of the Beam is 17.5m and used for supporting construction of coping beam.
