  1. I am making manual load combination and I got struck in calculating Mapped spectral response acceleration Ss in order to calculate vertical component of earthquake Ev=0.2SdsD we have to calculate Sds which is equal to Sds=2/3Sms . and Sms=FaSs now according to section 11.4.1 of ASCE 7-05 it says in order to calculate Ss see figure 22-1 through 22-14 but these figures are maps and they are for US so how to calculte this parameter or whats the alternative for this problem to calculate vertical component of earthquake i am also attaching a picture of load comtination from ASCE 7-05
  2. The existing Building Code of Pakistan (BCP) enforces a typical short-period shaped, UBC 97-based response spectrum which is a function of seismic coefficients Ca and Cv. These coefficients are further dependent on seismic zone factor (Z) and soil profile type. The BCP provides a table for seismic zones derived from a relatively recent PSHA study for all tehsils in the country, however, it doesnt provide the Standard Soil Profile Type Map to be used in conjunction with seismic zones. Is there any standard soil profile type map (or Vs30 map) for Pakistan? There are few individual studies on this topic, however, I am interested in a widely-accepted definition/assumption of soil profile types down to tehsil level. Thanks Fawad
  3. please any tell values of ss and s1 for islamabad....? and also other all coefficients use in seismic design to build a multi story building in Islamabad,,,,
  4. Ss and S1 values obtained from GSHAP are Ss=1.13 & S1= 0.45 where as that from USGS OFR are Ss=0.78 & S1=0.224 for town (Thana District Malakand) out of USA. Can I input these values in ETABS directly; if yes then which one OR do I need some further calculation based on these values? thanks for your guidance! Pakistan building code 2007 is based on UBC 97 where as I want to design based on latest IBC code...
