Is there any provision in code about the limitation of column size or shear wall?

When is the right time to consider designing a shear wall instead of a column?Can you please guide me on some code provisions regarding this matter. what do you prefer, design a column with a cross section of 42"x10" or a structural wall of the same dimension? Both will be subject to gravity and lateral loads.

I am doing the vetting of a project they made a seperate model for deflection check in which they use uncracked member is it the right approach???

In UBC section 1630.9.1 it is written that where allowable stress design method is used and whre drift is being coputed the load combinations of section 1612.2 shall be used..what it means that we shold check the drift for all load caes?? am i right??

kindly reccomend me a book or software for pile designing...

if i put a slab beneath a slab and by assigning it soil support means to reduce the soil pressure under that area...you can chk it by simply putting two slabs over each other...and here in some design offices people use 4 in thk lean beneath foundation in SAFE and it reduces the soil pressure but they are keep on doing this i argue this matter with different peoples but they think they are doing it right....
